As you may know, I’ve been writing about generosity of spirit both in my weekly ponderings and and on The Ronnengale
Blog - A Marriage for All Seasons. The more I read your comments the more I ponder. Expect to see us stay on the
subject for a few more blogs. We’ve gained lots of insight.
One thing that’s become crystal
clear is that generosity of spirit has NOTHING to do with money. Many people were financially generous with Rhoda during
our Rockin for Rhoda fun raising event. We raised lots of money for her and it certainly helped her pay some bills.
Raffle tickets were purchased, t-shirts and cupcakes were sold, on-line donations were made, and great music was played.
Rhoda carried away a “wad” of cash with which to go home and “give” away to her creditors. The
currency had the names of dead presidents on it, but for the most part the names of the contributors were unseen. I
imagine it didn’t take her long use the cash, but she will have the event and the smiling faces in her heart forever.
It’s the love we leave behind that makes a difference - like a flame being passed from one
heart to the next. Somewhere down the road another person will become acquainted with the big “C” or some
other equally unwelcome visitor and there will be a fund raiser for him or her. Perhaps the idea will come because someone
knew about Rockin Rhoda and decided to pass the flame . Essentially we are all paying our debts forward - just like
Rhoda has done her whole life.
Today I ask myself - have I passed
the flame of generosity forward? Will I find ways to make an investment in love?
